Studying Violence
The manner in which scientists study the link between violent images and consequent violent activity in American society is rather like:
Studying a group of people for 2 hours per day, during which time the members of the study group each smokes 2 cigarettes.
After 1 year, we issue our findings on the effects of tobacco on longevity.
What we have neglected is that each member of the study group smokes two packs a day outside the study group, has done so for 30 years, and will continue doing so for as long as they live. They also have high cholesterol diets, love trans fats, and avoid exercise.
The picture is incomplete, uninformed, and truncated.
