What About Nuclear Weapons?

No one is talking about it.

The two bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed about 200,000 people, of which the vast majority were civilians. World War II was the war defining future wars as operations to destroy civilians...no, civilizations! We yet argue about the decision to drop the bombs. Yea or nay, we argue, as if there were an answer.
On such topics, if we argue, there is no answer.
If there were an answer, then there is no argument, merely regret. In the face of true morality, we can only stand mute and accept judgement. We cannot argue anymore. But we cannot feel regret, only our need for self-justification.

When we learn to feel regret, we shall no longer argue and shall have learned a great lesson. Then, we went from the war into the Cold War and Mutually Assured Destruction. When the USSR fell, there was an opportunity to significantly assist Russia and achieve nuclear disarmament in the process. We failed to do this.
Now we have war in Georgia, in Iraq, in Afghanistan. We have a potential nuclear problem with Iran and we have a nuclear armed Israel whose status is very problematic. We are going back into War Games with nuclear arms. Even now we have the nuclear potential to destroy the world many times over.

When God granted us peace and an opportunity for a long lasting peace based on mutual help and understanding, we threw it away. After that, we descended into the confrontation with Al Qaida. That duel led us to throw away the Geneva Conventions, and become scofflaws in the comity of nations. Where do we, the people of the USA, intend to end up in this process? So far, we have created a nasty and brutish world.
