Quandary
Our economic problem is wrapped up in the fact that so much retirement money depends upon stock markets to generate returns. This goes back to the inception of 401(K) plans, and the enormous amount of money was welcomed by Wall Street.
However, this enormous amount of money also changed the face of financial markets in ways that are known and unknown.
The years of good returns are over for most people. Some older people have yet once again experienced a substantial decrease in their savings due to the random-downward-walk of Wall Street.
Yet, everything is more and more expensive, beyond the inflationary increases.
Businesses have come to expect endless growth and increase, but it cannot be sustained.
