Science And The Humanities

By all means engage with science, but engage with it critically, because science—contrary to what Pinker suggests–badly needs tough, informed criticism. As I said in a recent column, “it is precisely because science is so powerful that we need the humanities now more than ever.”

And his point is of tremendous importance, for in a world of experts, we tend to forget that some experts are luminaries and some are dimwitted buffoons.

Even Nobel prize winner Philip Lenard administered the Nazi science establishment: one feather-in-his-cap and one huge black eye on his resume.
