A Second Chance
As Hurricane Gustav approached the Gulf Coast, I thought on how great it is to be forgiven, to have a second chance.
Goerge Bush has a second chance to get it right, and not appear to be a supercilious right-wing fop.
Ray Nagin has a second chance to get it right, and not seem to be totally incompetent and unprepared.
When people tell me that Bush has done some good: there has not been another terrorist attack in US soil, it strikes me that the observation is correct. The reason is that George Bush had a second chance there.
I am not blaming George Bush for the attack. The security agencies seemed to have a good deal of information, but they did not energize themselves to do anything about it.
However, they all did get a second chance, and they did it differently.
George Bush did not succeed here because he had the right stuff; he succeeded because he got a second chance.
We all need second chances, and are thankful for them. Second chances are what we need to make us look good, to make us succesful, to make us into the wonderful people we already think we are.
