The Shooting of a Congresswoman

When I heard about the shooting, the question in my mind was "What are the gun laws in Arizona?"  The recent relaxing of gun laws has resulted in people carrying guns everywhere. I believe I mentioned that here in nearby Royal Oak, Michigan last summer the city council felt it necessary to allow guns to be openly carried during the annual Art Fair !
Gun owners said it was for their self-defense, no doubt having been to other numerous small city art fairs where hostages were taken by mime terrorists!

Even then, any sane person knew that this was a trend that was going to bite us. Sane people are hard to come by in public affairs, however.

Arizona Gun Law: Concealed Weapons Allowed Without Permit Under New Law

PHOENIX — Favoring the constitutional right to bear arms over others' concerns about gun safety, Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state allowing people to carry a concealed weapon without requiring a permit.
The measure takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, which likely puts the effective date in July or August.
"I believe this legislation not only protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well," Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement.
Alaska and Vermont now do not require permits to carry concealed weapons.

Rhetoric using Imagery of Guns and Gun Violence

(CNN) – As of Saturday, Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' name appeared on a website titled "take back the 20" as part of a list originally issued by Sarah Palin of vulnerable House Democrats. A map on the site showed crosshairs over the contested Democratic districts.
Palin first posted the list in March 2010, naming 20 House members who voted for health care reform and represented districts that Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona won in the 2008 presidential election.

It does not take the chickens very long to come home to roost.
Since we are zooming along in our handbasket to hell, is there room for the rest of us?
