Let's Try To Get This Straight

There has been more than the usual amount of moralizing in 2015, and a good deal of quoting sacred scriptures to make points, mostly about same-sex marriage.

I have actually heard Christian people quote the Old Testament, or the Tanakh, in opposition to same-sex marriage. Well, they actually have to quote the OT, because the New Testament does not mention anything about same-sex marriage, nor about homosexuality for that matter.

I have also heard people support this use of the Old Testament by asserting that Jesus said that He did not come to supplant The Law, but to fulfill it.
And say it He did.

But He also said other things.

Deuteronomy 10:20 has:
"You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name."

yet when we turn to Matthew 5:34-37
"But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one"
By looking at the above photo, we realize that these verses are just more of that Jesus-saying stuff we have been able to ignore for quite a long time.

God and the geniuses of religion always escape the rational traps we try to set for them.
