Contrails Of Anger

Please Fasten Your Seatbelts. There Is Some Light Turbulence Ahead.

She-who-must-be-obeyed recently flew back home from Baltimore on October 24. She was in the TSA line for 1 1/2 hours.

It was not clear why this happened; there was no highly visible memorial of terrorism...
Terrorism, like the French Revolution in the late 18th and the 19th century, which Shelly said had become "the master theme of the epoch"!

There was no reported "chatter" or Facebook and Twitter cabals plotting anything in and around Maryland. Nothing.

People were yelling and crying.
"What time is your flight?"
"10:00..."
"Would you let me cut in? Mine is at 9:40!  PLEASE!"

People were running around, holding their shoes in their hands, yelling for kids, stepping on Skittles and hopping around, trying to slip their shoes back on.
And some old guys had to have removed their belts, so they rushed around, trying to hold up their britches, hopping, threading belts... it sounded a bit like Brown Shirt Juden Wilde Jagd in the streets of Kracow...

I asked if she considered putting a price on her place in line.
The TSA sort of reminds me of the Fire Department of Fahrenheit 451 as rendered in Manga, not Brown Shirts. It doesn't matter. No one knows who the Brown Shirts were anymore.

Anyway, the TSA frowned and smiled.
They said that the problems were nothing; just wait until Thanksgiving and Christmas!

The contrails of anger and rage float like smog above the country.
Pretty soon we won't be going places anymore.
We do not go to Canada as often as we used to because it can be such a hassle coming back into the land of the free, home of the etc.

Dr. No Returns

I had a terrible feeling that Dr. No - or a reasonable facsimile - has returned and has been hijacking airplanes to his phoney volcano-looking research facility in Malaysia. He abandoned the base in Jamaica and has never gone back there.

That's 2 airplanes in less than a year that have disappeared. Stormy Weather.

Airlines And The War On Distransportation

Cute show these days.
American Airlines suddenly recalls that it had oodles of maintenance to do. The FAA suddenly remembered, too, only after some whistle-blowers told all.
Very cozy.

Instead of congressional investigations, how about a show trial. Or how about one of those Guantanamo trials for the airlines and the FAA?

The problem would be that if a prosecutor claimed that American did not do some unspecified maintenace at some unspecified time, but this malfeasance is known to be true because some unspecified guy said it was, American - knowing in its heart what it had done- would probably not insist on facing its accuser and would say yeah, that's probably true.

So. How does the Present Day Actual U.S.A (PDA USA - pronounced "PDA!... (pause) ...USA!") handle such situations? I would expect these things:

1) The creation of a Department of Homeland Transportation, whose size would dwarf any previous departments,

2) The appointment of a Transportation Czar to oversee the new transport empire.,

 3) Declare a War on Transportation Problems....hmmm, not catchy enough. Transportation Bottlenecks? No. How about a War on Dis-Transportation? or Distransportation, meaning that which do not transport.
OK. Declare a War on Distransportation,

 4) Continue to ignore rail transportation, the most fuel efficient of them all,

5) Make speeches on the importance of Biofuels and how they are better than food. Using our own patented temporal chopper and blender time machine, we may see the outcome of the first study authorized by the new Transportation Department: Transport of the Future:
Sea Land Trolley
