May His Polls Increase

My daughter knows a young man who is running for some political office. She went to a meeting for him and it began with a prayer led by a proper young lady Republican. In her prayer, she prayed for the President. I assume she prayed that he be wise, tolerant, and understanding. However, she did most definitely ask that his polls numbers increase! From all decreasing polls, libera nos, Domine! From fire, flood, and famine, deliver us, oh Lord! Since the poll numbers have gone down since then, I hope the young lady’s faith has not been shaken. There is the old saying: Give a president good polls and he will most probably be re-elected; Teach a president how to be wise, understanding, charitable, and to have breadth of vision, and he will probably be a leader of men for the rest of his life. Presidents Eisenhower, Carter, and Reagan observed this maxim.
