In the post Arts, Sports, and Evanescence
http://fatherdaughtertalk.blogspot.com/2011/02/art-evanescence.html
I took the posish ("position") that Sports were Art, only more chaotic; i.e., although both Ballet and Football are the events of structured and rehearsed physical behavior, the outcome of a ballet is pretty much determinate, whereas that of a football match is not.
Otherwise, we would be placing bets on whether the Mouse King whips the Nutcracker as Christmas approached.
So why is talk about Sports pretty much boring?
I think part of it is due to the fact that it is so probabilistic: there is an awful lot of chaotic stuff going on, and most reporters cannot grasp it. So to assist themselves, they fall back on hackneyed and time-worn adages and maxims - just as the athletes being interviewed do...
Just let the actions speak for themselves.
