The Egyptian Army

This morning I read about the statement from the Egyptian Army, vowing not to use force. It was a relief. The army is an honorable institution with a proud tradition. The army will not sully its reputation. In case you have forgotten, it is the only Arab armed forces to have defeated Israel, when they invaded across the Suez canal and drove the Israeli forces back from their occupying positions on the canal.
That is the primary reason in my mind that Egypt was able to effectively deal with Israel as a nation: Egypt had faced their moment of fire and had succeeded. They were no longer condemned to an endless defeatism which poisons the spirit.

Egypt is a wonderful nation with a wonderful history. The language of the Pharoahs stills resounds in the sound of Coptic, the Al Azhar mosque is a mosque and school that goes back more than 1,000 years. Jewel of Islam, diamond of Africa, beacon for the world!
