If Democracy Weakens

The times remind me of the early twentieth century after World War I, when the chaos everywhere reflected badly on the democratic governments, and those governments themselves often added to the chaos. As Democracy became ineffective, fascism grew in appeal, resulting in Mussolini's elevation in 1922 in Italy: he made the trains run on time... again. (We can only assume they had run on time at least one time previously.)

Our democratic ways are on trial. Our "democratic" ways have, since 2008, not done all that well.

Suppose in 2008, President Bush had decided to hold a referendum on the Bail-Out? Interesting.
