The destabilization of Syria was and has been a calamity of choice by people in NATO and the USA and the EU who did not stop and think through what was going to happen.
NATO and the rest cannot be a force for peace if they cannot stop a disaster while it is being slowly built up step by step, because they lack the will for peace.
One does not need a will for war; one is forced to it by active transgression or - lacking an external stimulus - insanity. Peace requires will and resolve. Peace requires virtue.
