School's In !
President Obama has included in his budget a proposal that would privatize the TVA, Tennessee Valley Authority, the largest public utility in the nation and an icon of the New Deal. The TVA brought electricity to the rural areas of Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, and other states.
Such proposals to privatize government run entities usually come from Republicans, but Republican politicians from the entire Tennessee Valley are up in arms, saying that the cost of electricity would go up, and that the proposal had been made before and was a very bad idea.
This reversal is a perfect irony, by which Mr. Obama teaches the entire nation how to stop and consider the benefits of government and its programs. It teaches us to avoid the knee-jerk simplicity of things like the Tea Party.
The response indicates that the lessons are being learned.
